“Adoption and Foster Care Analysis and Reporting System (AFCARS) data released by the Children’s Bureau, within HHS’ Administration for Children and Families, show a continued increase in the numbers of children in foster care. Nearly three quarters (71 percent) of states reported an increase in the numbers of children entering foster care from 2014 to 2015. The five states with the largest increases were Florida, Indiana, Georgia, Arizona, and Minnesota; these five states were also among the states with the largest increases between 2013 and 2014.”
“The national number of children in foster care is still far below where it was ten years ago, but any increase is cause for concern, and we’ve now seen increases for the past three years.”
