Kim Garner
Officer
ACI Board MemberKim graduated with a degree in Social Change and Development in 1996 from the University of Wisconsin – Green Bay. She has been passionate about adoption since she was young, and after she married her husband, Wes, they began to pursue adoption. Their first daughter was born in Vietnam, they then had a biological son, adopted a girl from India, and a boy from Ethiopia. Kim became an adoption advocate and served as Vice President of Ours Through Adoption, an adoption support group, from 2001-2004. After serving on the Ours board, she decided to make her passion her work, and she became President of Community Adoption Center in 2006. A couple years later she became President of Adoption Advocates and then President of Adoption Choice Inc. All of the agencies were located in Wisconsin, all with different strengths. It was Kim’s desire to merge all three agencies into one, which occurred in 2013 under the name of Adoption Choice, Inc.
Kim’s desire to help children in need of families has led her to visiting and volunteering in orphanages all over the world, from Rwanda, to Ethiopia, India, and Vietnam to name a few. In 2011, Kim decided to use her other passion, running, as a vehicle to inform people of the struggles of children in Ethiopia. She began a not-for-profit foundation, Awaken Hope, where she ran long distance races to raise awareness and help fund projects and to a rural village in Ethiopia. She believes it is every child’s right to have a loving and nurturing home and hopes to help others understand and to realize what a precious gift adoption is.
